We love Resurrection Eggs!
What are they, you ask? They are a great way to teach your kids and grandkids about the resurrection story. I purchased them when my kids were very young. It was the 90s, and I found this resource SO valuable in teaching them all about the Easter story as based in scripture. They would get so excited wondering what the contents were in each egg (even reminding me to open them) and they also anticipated opening the next egg each day. As they grew older, I turned the story relaying process over to them, completely. They would open an egg, then pull out its contents sharing specific facts found in the Bible. I would be SO amazed at their recall and how accurate they were! (It made my heart swell…like I had done a good job as a busy Mom. J ) The items in each egg would prompt their responses and help them remember what part of the Easter story came next. Sometimes, they would ask to open an egg with their friends and grandparents because they liked sharing what they knew. At any age, they could share at least some part of the story, so children, of any age, can easily take part. The back story about how I found these Resurrection Eggs. When my kids were little, I was going about the daily MOM grind...you know what I'm talkin' about. And I would try to always tune in to our local radio station that featured two husbands talking about life. I know, I know, two husbands? It was called Family Life Today. http://familylifetoday.com/ They were Christian broadcasters/teachers/leaders, who both had lots of kids and they were trying to raise their families the right way. They would have such great tips for surviving parenthood, balancing family and life in general. They shared the good and the bad; the real issues facing parents each day. Their interviews and stories would have me both sobbing and laughing hysterically. One particular broadcast I remember clearly because it had me in stitches. They were randomly calling mothers across the country to ask what their kitchen sink looked like at that moment. The replies from the women were so truthful and hilarious! As hard as those parenting days were for me, at times, I do now miss them. Ahhhh...the memories. But one valuable tool I had around Easter time was the Resurrection Eggs from Family Life Today, and I highly suggest you go out and purchase them. If you feel you can’t buy them at this time, or ran out of time, they are so easy to make. In fact, we made some additional eggs ourselves. Just go through the Biblical narrative, and look for small items to be placed in the plastic eggs. (They can be found at any dollar type store.) Then, we numbered our colorful eggs to help our kids tell the story in order. Additionally, it helped them with their color and number recognition, as well. My kids and I always looked forward to opening the eggs every year. In fact, I STILL have my original set that I plan on using with my own grandchildren some day!!J
